Job title: Part-time pottery teacher, starts September 2025
Location: 1288 Vernon Drive, Vancouver
Job description: We are hiring an experienced pottery instructor to teach one multi-week pottery class per week, as well as 2-4 clay dates or privately booked events each month. Classes feature either the wheel or hand building.
Responsibilities:
Welcoming students to the studio, creating a warm and friendly learning environment
Creating a lesson plan and demos for classes
Managing a group of 8-12 students at once
Assisting students hands-on as they try pottery for the first time
Ensuring students use the space correctly (no clay down drain, how to clean up and care for equipment properly)
Cleaning up thoroughly after class
Communicating efficiently with other studio staff and studio management via Slack
Hours & Schedule:
One weekly 6-week class on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-10pm
2-4 clay dates per month (scheduled in advance), and 1-2 private events per month (as they are requested)
Schedule flexibility is required, the applicant should have some availability on weekday daytimes as well as weekends
Clay dates are booked for weekends only, on Fri/Sat evenings, Sat/Sun afternoons, and Sun mornings. These would be booked 2 months in advance in a big scheduling session.
Private events are typically booked for corporate team building on weekday mornings/afternoons, and are booked as the customer requests them, usually 1-4 weeks in advance.
Physical requirements:
Must be able to carry 25lb up and down a flight of stairs
Must be able to wedge large amounts of clay
Qualifications:
Post-secondary ceramics education is required, either a diploma or degree program
2 years of experience teaching pottery to adults in a community studio
Ability to teach both wheel and hand building confidently

$30/hour starting wage
